The Joe Dale Cup is a special event in the Wombwell Karting calendar, held in memory of Joe Dale, a quiet, friendly, and well-loved young driver who made a lasting impact at the circuit.
Joe never complained about racing incidents or kart issues – he simply got on with it and enjoyed every moment at the track with his dad. His positive attitude and love for karting left a mark on everyone who knew him.
Tragically, on Friday 23rd June 2017, Joe passed away after a sudden and severe asthma attack while out with friends at his local park. He was just 15 years old.
In honour of Joe’s memory, we made a promise to his family: Joe will always be remembered, and Joe will race on as #27.
The Joe Dale Cup is more than just a race – it’s a celebration of Joe’s spirit. His parents, John and Helena Dale, attend the event each year and personally select a Driver of the Day who reflects the qualities Joe showed: determination, sportsmanship, and heart.
During the club’s annual presentation evening, a driver is also awarded the Joe Dale Award for the Most Promising Driver – a tribute to the potential Joe carried with him.
This event also supports causes close to the family’s heart. We raise funds for South Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, and Asthma UK. Donations are always gratefully received – more information on each charity can be found by clicking the images below.
The #27 will always be on track at Wombwell – and Joe’s memory will always be part of our club.
